Law is a set of categorized rules and regulations under which any society or country is governed. The BA LLB (gen.) is a 3-year undergraduate program, divided over 6 semesters, allowing the students to cover all aspects of legal studies. It seeks to impart in students the knowledge of the law and its application and also develop skills of analysis, critiquing, and advocacy that would facilitate them in pursuing careers related to the profession of law. Discussions in this course range from a philosophical approach towards the legal system down to practical areas of law. The coverage goes from an introductory presentation of the basic principles, concepts, and procedure of law to a detailed discussion of constitutional, civil, criminal, and commercial law.
The course will deal with substantive law, procedural law, and the resultant interdisciplinary knowledge that is considered indispensable for the said coursework; it will also be a way to provide insight into the profession, courts, and societal impact of laws. Thus, it will also develop basic techniques of legal writing, research, and courtroom technique.
Course Objectives
The BA LLB course aims at giving students a firm foundation in both legal education and the humanities, instilling proper sensitivity towards the workings of law within society. It is specially designed to build an all-rounded understanding of the law's principles while upskilling students with an understanding of insights from various disciplines in the social sciences, like political science, history, and sociology. It aims at developing critical thinking, legal reasoning, and practical application among students to enable them to take a look at legal problems from a broad social perspective and find ways of dealing with them. The program imparts ethics and prepares the graduates for a wide range of careers in the legal profession, including advocacy, legal consultancy, judicial services, and policymaking. The BA LLB brings out versatile law professionals who have been trained to understand the complexity of law and its role in society.
