Overview:

The Multipurpose Health Workers (MPHW) General is a two-year course, which is generally subdivided into four semesters and is complete in different healthcare institutions and training establishments in India. The purpose of this course is to teach people who can work as health workers and deliver health care services in rural and urban areas. The program is designed to meet the increasing need of trained health workers to support health care, delivery for the first referral, maternal and child health, hygiene and disease prevention, and control, thus enhancing community health.

From the onset of the course, the students are equipped with both theoretical understanding and skills of health promotion, disease prevention, and primary health care delivery. The knowledge that is required for implementation of health education, first aid immunisation, and management of illness is incorporated in the curriculum. For the goal of training competent public health professionals, emphasis is laid on community health and hygiene, helping students grasp information on the health requirements of specific populations, and disseminating health information among the public.

The MPHW General provides the students with the knowledge that enables him/her to take on a significant role in the execution of the health requirements in the general public, most especially in the underprivileged communities with little access to resources. Graduates will be prepared to serve in national health programs, collect health data through surveys, and collaborate with different medical and public health workers. This course is aimed at equipping health workers with knowledge and skills that will enable them to positively impact the health of people by providing them with the basic health care needs.
