Overview:

Bachelor of Science in Public Health is a three year course conducted in six semesters offered in most universities across the country. These policies aim to prepare students to be able to address challenges affecting local and global public health. It is concerned with an appreciation of the various factors affecting public health, particularly environmental and behavioural factors, to the general health of the public.

Students will be able to understand related topics including epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, and environmental health. Courses ensure an understanding of theoretical concepts as well as hands-on skills that ensure students participate in health research, the design and implementation of practical public health solutions, and disease prevention programs. Health organisations, government agencies, and non-profit organisations are a major part of the program as students complete their fieldwork and/or internships.

The course also looks at issues related to government surveillance, reaching zero for communicable diseases and approaches to health systems. Students will gain experience with contemporary tools used in public health, database systems, decision tools and epidemiology, and future monitoring to assess system effectiveness. When students B. Sc. from this program, they will be prepared to provide public health services and improve the health of people in their communities.
