Overview:

The Certificate in Ayurvedic General Medicine (CAGM) is a 6-month professional Ayurveda training programme offered by the National Council of Training Academy (NCTA). This Ayurvedic medicine course provides essential knowledge and practical skills in general Ayurvedic healthcare and treatment methods. It is ideal for individuals who have completed at least the 10ᵗʰ standard and wish to start a career in Ayurvedic healthcare or primary medical support.

Learners are introduced to the principles of Ayurveda, including Dosha theory, Prakriti, Vikriti, and Ayurvedic diagnostic methods. The Ayurveda general medicine course covers herbal formulations, Ayurvedic dietetics, preventive care, and therapeutic practices for managing common health conditions. The curriculum emphasises practical applications of Ayurveda in rural and community healthcare settings, integrating traditional wisdom with modern health concepts.

Upon successful completion, students will be equipped with the skills to assist in Ayurvedic clinics, community wellness centres, and healthcare institutions, providing basic Ayurvedic medical care under supervision. This Ayurvedic practitioner course empowers learners to contribute to holistic and accessible healthcare, especially in underserved areas.

Course Curriculum:

The curriculum is structured to cover core Ayurvedic sciences, diagnostic methods, and preventive & therapeutic approaches.

  2. Concepts of Tridosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and body constitution (Prakriti)
  3. Basic principles of Panchamahabhuta (five elements) and Dhatus (tissues)

  2. Sharira Kriya (body functions and Dosha-Dhatu-Mala theory)

  • Dravyaguna Vigyan (Pharmacology of Ayurvedic Herbs):

  2. Common Ayurvedic herbs and their therapeutic uses
  3. Preparation of herbal medicines
  • Ayurvedic Diagnosis (Roga Nidan):

  1. Diagnostic methods (Nadi Pariksha, tongue, eye, and pulse diagnosis)
  2. Understanding disease progression in Ayurveda
  3. Basic treatment protocols
  • Swasthavritta (Preventive & Social Medicine):

  1. Principles of health maintenance
  2. Daily and seasonal regimens (Dinacharya and Ritucharya)
  3. Role of yoga, meditation, and lifestyle management
  4. Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana (Pharmaceuticals & Formulations):
  5. Preparation of simple Ayurvedic formulations (Churna, Kashaya, Taila, Ghrita)
  6. Safety and dosage guidelines
  • Kayachikitsa (General Medicine in Ayurveda):

  1. Management of common ailments like fever, digestive disorders, joint pain, skin conditions
  2. Role of Ayurveda in chronic lifestyle diseases (diabetes, hypertension)
  • Panchakarma & Detoxification Basics:

  1. Introduction to Panchakarma therapies (Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, Raktamokshana)
  2. Indications and contraindications
  3. Supportive therapies and rejuvenation techniques
  • Health, Hygiene & Dietetics:

  1. Role of Ahara (diet) in Ayurveda
  2. Therapeutic diets for different body types
  3. Principles of personal and community hygiene
  • Practical Training:

  1. Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis demonstrations
  2. Preparation of simple herbal remedies
  3. Case studies in Ayurvedic diagnosis and treatment
