The GDA course : short for General Duty Assistant, is a 6-month job-oriented healthcare training program that prepares you to work as a patient care assistant in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and home care. In Hindi, many students know it as "GDA course kya hai" — simply put, it trains you to become the person every hospital depends on: the one who takes care of patients when doctors and nurses are busy saving lives.

At NCTA (National Council of Training Academy), this course runs for 6 months and is open to anyone who has passed class 10. No science background needed. If you can read, write, and genuinely want to care for people, you can do this course.

2. Human Anatomy & Physiology : the basics of how the body works, in simple language
3. Nursing Care Skills : bed making, patient hygiene, feeding, positioning
4. Patient Care & Assistance : bathing, mobility, assistance with daily needs, emotional support
5. Infection Control & Safety : hand hygiene, PPE, biomedical waste handling, biomedical safety
6. Nutrition & Dietetics : patient diets, feeding techniques
7. First Aid & Emergency Response : CPR basics, handling emergencies until the medical team arrives
8. Practical Training : supervised hands-on practice that prepares you for your first job
    

What does a General Duty Assistant actually do?

A GDA is the backbone of day-to-day patient care. On a typical shift you'll:

1. Help patients bathe, eat, and move around safely
2. Record vital signs, temperature, pulse, BP, and report changes to the nurse
3. Keep patient areas clean and follow infection-control protocols
4. Assist nurses during procedures and ward rounds
5. Handle patient documents, transport patients within the hospital
6. Provide the emotional support that makes patients feel human, not like case numbers
