Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Botany

By NCTA Duration: 3 Years Code: UDC-697

Overview

The Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Botany is a specialised three-year program providing an in-depth study of plant sciences. Offered by several Universities and Institutions across India, this course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of plant biology down to cellular processes as well as on an ecosystem scale.

In fact, botany is a biological science that includes everything related to plants—from algae, which we can find in the ocean, to fungi and terrestrial ecosystems. The course teaches students about plant life, including its systematics, physiographic plant geography, and ecology, the structure, growth, and development. On completion of this course, students will acquire the knowledge and abilities necessary for various fields like agriculture, pharmaceutical industries, and environmental conservation.

This program combines training in theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to conduct independent research, analyze ecological data of different scales and complexity, as well as the real-world applications of botany. Fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and research projects are also key components of the program, as they allow students to get hands on experience in plant sciences.
