Master of Arts (M.A) in Mathematics

By NCTA Duration: 2 Years Code: UDC-549

Overview

The postgraduate course in Mathematics is of 2 years, divided into 4 semesters. Mathematics may be defined as the science of numbers, quantities, and shapes. This course comprises pure mathematics and applied mathematics, providing the student with the ability to apply mathematical theories, techniques, and computational procedures for the solution of problems of some complexity in disciplines such as science, engineering, economics, and finance.

Pure Mathematics deals with purely theoretical ideas of abstract structures in algebra, calculus, and geometry that lie at the core of mathematical reasoning. Applied Mathematics is more concerned with the application of mathematical techniques to solve real-world problems that are often related to statistics, probability, and computational models.

Course Objectives

Master of Arts in Mathematics aims to give in-depth exposure to Pure and Applied Mathematics. This course develops analytical, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills in students. The course shall also emphasize the development of deep insights regarding the understanding of mathematical principles and their application to scenarios in the real world.

Upon completion of the program, students shall be well-prepared to pursue successful careers in academia, research, industry, finance, analysis of data, and other areas where advanced mathematical knowledge and skills are required.
