The Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Sanskrit is a 4-year undergraduate course, structured for 8-semesters offered by different universities in India. The course aims to offer in-depth knowledge in the Sanskrit language, literature, and philosophy for mastering basic texts and traditions and engaging in a serious introduction to the classical heritage of India. The course has a fairly wide range of subjects in classical and Vedic Sanskrit, poetics, and dramaturgy, besides a host of textual analysis methodologies.

The course seeks to inculcate a type of balance between theoretical insights and practical experience and offer a rigorous analysis of Sanskrit texts, supported by extensive readings, and research projects that lie at the very heart of the course credits. Field trips to archives and historical landmarks, manuscript libraries etc. extend the curriculum to include chances in which students can anchor their academic learning within vivid contexts.
