Overview

Master of Arts in Music is a two-year course,  divided into four semesters. This course is designed to equip students with a deeper understanding of the advanced concepts of music theory, history, and performance. The program is designed to deeply engross students in the practical and theoretical base of music so that it enables their relation to the art form from historical, cultural, and performance perspectives. There is a strong  presence of the program in many universities across India.

Students will be able to learn a wide range of subjects covering music composition, performance techniques, music theory, and the development of music from various cultures and through all ages. The program is relevant to those seeking work in areas such as performance, teaching music, production of music, research, or other related fields.
 

Course Objectives

MA in Music aims to endow students with a broad and varied knowledge of music within the frameworks of a technical as well as theoretical perspective. The program develops their understanding of the cultural and social role of music.

Students would further develop their preliminary skills in performance, composition, and music analysis that enable critical interaction in very versatile musical styles and traditions. The course motivates creativity and self-expression while fostering a deep understanding of music theory, harmony, and composition.

They further delve into the relation of music to society, its historical development, and influences on cultures, which makes them versatile in musicology studies. The program also equips students with research skills, preparing them for a career in academia or professional music research.
