Overview

MA in Sociology is a postgraduate course of 2 years, divided into 4 semesters. Sociology is the scientific study of society, social relationships, social interaction, and culture. It is a discipline that holds the view that research is done to understand the structure and dynamics of societies, institutions, and the behavior of individuals as social beings within those social structures. Sociology helps in understanding patterns of human interaction, social organizations, social stratification, and change in society.

Some of the sub-areas in these studies include social theory, social research methods, social change, criminology, and social inequality. The objective of sociology is to explain how societies work, what holds them together, and how they change. Among the issues investigated by sociology are poverty and gender inequality, crime, the role of the family, and education systems—issues that offer insight into human behavior and what elements mold social outcomes.
