Master of Arts (M.A) in Philosophy

By NCTA Duration: 2 Years Code: UDC-544

Overview

Philosophy is the systematic study of fundamental questions related to existence, knowledge, morality, reason, and reality. It bridges the gap between critical analysis, rational argument, and systematic thinking on the nature of the world, purpose of life, structure of human experience, and ethical principles.

The Master of Philosophy is a two year blended course, divided into four semesters, designed to equip  students with in-depth knowledge in philosophical theories, critical thinking, ethics and logics.

Course Objectives

Indian philosophy spans a long history, dating back to the seventh and sixth centuries BCE with the Vedic texts, which are some centuries older than the very first European philosophical traditions. It is a practical enterprise, a way of life, and an inquiry into the mystery of existence. It encompasses about the same scope and range as Western philosophy, but Indian philosophers worked on unique problems.

The M.A. in Philosophy will provide students with knowledge of classical and modern philosophical traditions at an advanced level. This program will offer practical experience in critical thinking, logical analysis, and ethical reasoning, thus equipping students to deal with complex philosophical problems and debates.

The curriculum specializes in the application of philosophical theory in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and political philosophy. The program prepares students for careers in academia, research, public service, and consultancy. At the same time, students will develop independent research skills, culminating in a thesis project that covers issues necessitating technical and conceptual insight. Graduates from this holistic approach will be able to contribute to modern discourses of philosophy and offer solutions to ethical and philosophical problems in society.
