Overview

Drawing and painting have long been the ultimate, traditional, or perhaps even primordial modes of expression for art. Both retain their pertinence to culture within contemporary society, often becoming the medium for exploring and commenting on social, political, and personal issues. In this regard, both are praised for being in a position to convey complex ideas and emotions through the medium of visual language, sometimes even crossing linguistic and cultural borders. In contemporary society, they do not cease to be relevant in culture; most of the time, they even become a means of representing and speaking about social, political, and personal concerns. The two forms are considered remarkable for the ability to express complicated emotions and ideas through visual means that, at times, go beyond linguistic and cultural boundaries.

Master of Arts in Drawing and Painting is a two-year course that is divided into four semesters and offered by many universities across India. This program allows students to develop a personal style while gaining deep knowledge in the historical background and contemporary art practice within technical mastery.
 

Course Objectives

The course  is focused on professional development, which assists students in preparing a career pathway in the visual arts. Students will learn key techniques of portfolio development, exhibition curation, and art marketing, along with hands-on insight into the inner workings of an art world encompassing gallery systems, public art, and commissions. It also focuses on the potential of art as a dynamic medium for social commentary and cultural expression and hence encourages students to engage their work in the service of addressing contemporary society's and global contemporary issues.

The program culminates in a final thesis project in which students produce an integrated body of work that expresses technical skill, creative vision, and conceptual depth. This will be presented publicly, therefore attesting to the ability of a student and also offering an outlet for professional critique and praise.
