Master of Arts in Textile Design

By NCTA Team Last Updated: October 23, 2024

Overview

Master of Arts in Textile Design is a two-year and four-semester course offered by many universities across India. The program provides students with an understanding of textile design practices, including creative inspiration and concept development, fashion range planning, costing, and supply needs throughout the manufacturing process.

Throughout the course, students will explore various aspects of textile design, such as surface decoration, weaving fabric manipulation techniques, and digital textile printing. The curriculum builds a balance between theory and practice, where students receive both traditional lecture-based instruction as well as project-driven experiences. Students have the opportunity to work in state-of-the-art studios and workshops that allow them to experiment with new materials and techniques that address their individual design problems in the vernacular. Hands-on creates creativity and ticks the technical boxes of current textile design.

The MA Textile Design also focuses on research, sustainable practices, and exploring eco-friendly fabrics. The program also includes topics such as sustainable textile production, ethical sourcing, and sustainability in the context of textile production.

The program prepares graduates for wide-ranging applications at management and executive levels in both textile and fashion. This course provides a good underpinning for students wishing to pursue an MPhil or PhD in textile conservation, smart textiles, or fashion innovation. A perfect blend of creativity, technical skills, and knowledge of the industry will allow students to keep pace with textile design.
