By NCTA Duration: 2 Years Code: UDC-546

Overview

The two-year postgraduate program in Master of Arts in Sanskrit consists of four semesters. The course reflects the rich, ancient tradition of Sanskrit language, literature, and philosophy. It aims at orienting the learners with a deeper understanding of the classic texts in Sanskrit—epics, Vedas, Puranas, and philosophical treatises—and also links these traditions with their modern interpretations and applications.

It develops critical thinking, advanced linguistic skills, and an appreciation for India's cultural and philosophical heritage. In the literary-cum-analytical learning of Sanskrit, the student attains expertise in grammar, poetics, aesthetics, Indian philosophy, and manuscriptology. Research in ancient texts is encouraged through the course so that students may make contributions towards the preservation and progress of Sanskrit studies.

By the end of the program, students will acquire the ability to engage in various careers in academia, research, translation, and cultural promotional activities related to classical languages and Indian heritage. Any person having a keen interest in one of the oldest languages of the world and its impact on Indian and global culture is best suited for this course.
